The Solartron distributed data acquisition network consisted of a number of distributed front-end measurement devices called Isolated Measurement Pods (IMPs) and a proprietary local area network called S-Net. All IMPs possess an on-board microcomputer for data conversion, validation, timing and local data buffering. The S-Net is a twisted pair cable that can connect up to fifty multi-channel IMPs and is capable of processing up 1,000 channels per second. The distributed network itself could extend over a distance of one mile. As well as handling communications and data, the S-Net also supplied power to the IMPs.
The current offering is limited to the equivalent of the 35951C IMP - 20 Channel Analogue Reed Relay. This imp replacement will even take existing connectors so as to minimise wiring costs.
